Farmers blocked the exits from Pancevo to Belgrade

For the seventh day, farmers have been protesting in cities across Serbia due to the low price of sunflowers, and since Sunday, farmers have blocked both exits from Pancevo to Belgrade, waiting for the outcome of today's meeting between their representative and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, which is scheduled for 10 a.m., Radio Television of Serbia reports. (RTS).

The meeting will also be attended by oil producers, representatives of trade chains, as well as the Chamber of Commerce.

Farmers pointed out that they are waiting for the outcome of the meeting, after which they will decide on the further course of the protest.

The Government, as announced, expects the result of the talks to be a solution to the current situation, acceptable for farmers and for the state and traders - taking into account the interests of the citizens.

The president of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Marko Čadež, told RTS that today's meeting will include all those who can be expected to contribute to the solution - farmers, but also oil producers and processors, as well as trade chains.

"Everyone has problems, from the fact that the costs of production for farmers have increased to the fact that the export ban was in force until recently and that the costs for processors have also increased," Čadež emphasized and added that everyone shares the burden and that is why it is important for everyone to sit at the table and see how it can be alleviated.

He notes that the essence is to see how to alleviate the situation and that no one is at a great loss.

Farmers demand that the purchase price of sunflowers be 700 euros per ton, that the excise duty on fuel be abolished and the trade margin be limited.

In the first days of the protest, the government fulfilled part of the demands, lifted the ban on oil exports and offered to set the purchase price of sunflowers at 535 euros per ton.

Farmers have been protesting for days and blocking roads and saying that if they don't get 700 euros for a ton of sunflowers, they won't have anything to pay for sowing and that, then, there will be even less food next year.
